The Global Awards Announces 2011 Winners; McCann Healthcare Worldwide Japan Earns Grand Global

The Global Awards, honoring the World’s Best Healthcare Advertising ™, announced its 2011 award winners on Thursday, December 1st, at two international Global Awards presentations taking place in New York, USA and Sydney, Australia. The Global Awards Grand Jury selected only one entry to receive the coveted Grand Global Award, McCann Healthcare Worldwide Japan for “Roll Up Your Sleeves, Japan!” for client Novartis Hypertension DTC. In addition, Langland, UK earned the inaugural title of Global Healthcare Agency of the Year. This year’s Grand Jury recognized winners from 21 countries and awarded a total of 31 Global Awards and 121 Finalists.

The Global Awards New York celebration took place last night at Helen Mills. The celebration began with cocktail reception and a print and video showcase of the 2011 award-winning work. Michael Demetriades, Global Awards Executive Director, and Tom Domanico, Global Awards Advisory Board Chairman & DraftFCB Healthcare Chairman Emeritus presented the trophies.

McCann Healthcare Worldwide Japan earned the Grand Global Award for Communication to the Consumer for “Roll Up Your Sleeves, Japan!” for their integrated campaign for client Novartis Hypertension DTC. The campaign utilized the drawing power of Tsuyoshi Kitazawa, a former member of the Japan Soccer Team. Novartis took over Tokyo’s Ginza business district to test the blood pressure of businessmen in their 40’s, while two people suspended on the side of the building were raised or lowered to show systolic and diastolic numbers in front of a skyscraper-sized banner 100 square meters large.

Langland, in addition to earning the title of Global Healthcare Agency, took the lead for the second year in a row earning 8 Global Awards: 2 Global Awards for client AmBisome: “AmBisome Exhibition Stand” in Conventions / Events, and “Survivors” in Core Campaign; 2 Global Awards for client Exposed: “Exposed” in Integrated (Mixed Media) Campaign and also for Online Media; and one Global Award each for “A Little Less Different” in Integrated (Mixed Media) Campaign for Easyhaler; “Mode of Action” Film / Video for Hidrasec; “Spark” in Integrated (Mixed Media) Campaign for Phenylketonuria Patient Recruitment; and “Questival” in Online Media for Questival.

Australia was recognized with 4 Global Awards: Hammond & Thackeray earned a Global Award for “Enbrel iPad detailer” for Enbrel; McCann Healthcare was honored with a Global Award for “Sponge Toast” for client Actonel EC; and Ward6 earned 2 Global Awards, one for “One Heart Attack is Enough” for client Omacor, and the second for “Tacks” for Cymbalta.
