Marmaris, Turkey (PRWEB) November 16, 2011

This year’s MIRW proved to be the most successful edition yet – entries into it were limited to 145 yachts and places were booked up really fast, months before the start of the event. (Watch the video at http://youtu.be/V3reqcmzwjY)

This very popular and well organized event, on the picturesque waters off the coast of Marmaris, as every year, included more than just yacht racing. It gathered more than 14 hundred passionate sailors from all over the world, as well as many sailing fans.

The main body responsible for the organization of the biggest east Mediterranean race is the Marmaris International Yacht Club, whose members surpassed themselves to make it an unforgettable one.

On top of the competition, there was something for everyone throughout the week. The lucky participating sailors had the opportunity to enjoy fun, not-to-be-missed cocktail parties, gala dinners, dress competitions and of course award ceremonies. These events allow the communication between sailors, both pros and amateurs, in a relaxed atmosphere. This relieved the tensions, since the passionate competition sometime overwhelmed everyone.

The fleet was divided in 8 IRC classes, 4 racing and 4 Charter. The IRC Charter class is consisted of non-professional crews that deeply enjoyed sailing and found the opportunity to have a great time and gain precious experience.

Traditionally, during the week, 5 races take place. At the end of each race prizes are given to the winners of each class. The races are full of passion and excitement. The unpredictability of the weather and the wind delivers a flurry of emotions to the sailors who participate, both beginners and professionals. The competition is intense, very often very dramatic.

This year out of the 5 scheduled races, 4 took place – due to the wind’s… reluctance to cooperate with the race committee. Some races tested the sailors’ patience, as the wind was very light, whereas other allowed all crews to experience some exciting, almost to its limits, sailing.

At the overall results, ‘Mad X’ won in IRC 1 Class, followed by ‘By Far Lemon’ in second and ‘Courrier Du Cœur’ in third.

In IRC 2 division, ‘Matrix’ beat ‘Matador’ and ‘Matrak’ that came second and third respectively.

‘Letlland’ won the IRC 3 Class and ‘Armador’ was second, with ‘Avalon’ in third place.

In IRC 4, ‘Boomerang’ left the rest of his opponents far behind and won easily. Second was ‘Blue Bird II’ and third was ‘Allegro’.

At the IRC CHR 1 Class, ‘Hakuna Matata’ was first ahead of ‘Lz Yachting 1991′ and ‘Pearl’.

‘Martlet’ won in IRC CHR 2 division followed by ‘Night&Day’ and ‘Yuksel D3′.

In IRC CHR 3, ‘Persey’ left behind her ‘Themis’ and ‘Yuksel D2′ and won.

Finally in IRC CHR 4, ‘Atilla II’ came first, ‘Yuksel 7′ second and ‘Yuksel 35′ third.

Popular with tourists and travelers all year round, the beautiful Turkish coastal resort of Marmaris hosted another successful and exciting Marmaris’ International Race Week, one of the most iconic competitions and the experience of a lifetime that shouldn’t be missed.

Plans are already in the works for the 2012 Marmaris International Race Week, the 23rd.
